1. Designing
When designing a geodesic dome, you have two options: buy a dome design service or design the dome yourself. Designing this insulated glamping dome was a multiple-week process involving experienced engineers. The process involved designing different dome parts: STAR Connectors, OSB/PVC/Insulation, Chimney, Glass Façada, and Door Frame.
2. Building a base or terrace
Your dome should be built on an even surface and be lifted from the ground to avoid water coming inside.
3. Building a frame
The frame of this geodesic dome consisted of our Classic STAR connectors and wooden struts.
Single-layer STAR connector fixing from the outside was used.
4. Installing cover and insulation
PVC Cover: the Dome PVC cover is welded from the highest-quality Serge Ferrari PVC interlining. Fire retardancy M2/B1/Group1. PVC membrane is made in France. You can choose the PVC colour.
Insulation: triangle panels, PIR 50mm. Fireproof class B-s1, d0 FF-PIR thermal insulation panels are made of rigid polyisocyanurate (polyurethane) foam (PIR) core and are covered with multi-layer aluminium foil on both sides.
The extremely low thermal conductivity of these panels (λD = 0.023 W/(mK)) allows the thickness of structures to be reduced by up to two times. This not only saves space and usable area on the premises but also reduces the weight of the structure.
5. Interior furnishing
Interior finishing: Birch plywood triangular panels are attached to the frame with thin nails. Plywood surface: natural, untreated wood. If you want to improve the interior, you can paint or varnish the plywood after installation.
An optional place for a fireplace. Fireproof stainless steel parts for the interior and exterior of the chimney. The fireplace and chimney are not included.
