Structural Glazing

Structural Glazing is an innovative building material that takes advantage of all modern technology has to offer. The specially reinforced glass used is strong enough to walk on and bear its own weight, and the flexible silicone adhesive provides a smooth, seamless aesthetic and eliminates the need for framing.

Glazed Skylight Roof Design

Insulated vs Non-insulated glass units

Insulated glass units consist of two or more glass panes with a vacuum, or any other gas, filled between them. Non-insulated glass units have a single pane in their structure.

Insulated glass roofs are more expensive compared to non-insulated ones.

Glass units are tempered glass. Lifespan is unlimited. Only silicone between the glass has a limited life of 20 years (standard option - one-component silicone). After 20 years, the silicone will need to be replaced.

A more resistant two-component silicone lifespan is 30-40 years.

Glass cover classification:

  • GU – Single-pane Glass Unit. Non-insulated glass panel. Tempered or hardened glass sheet. 
  • IGU – Insulated Glass Unit. 
  • TGU – Triple Glass Unit

Glass skylight panels are installed on a downward slope. The glass is trailed to prevent bending due to wind, snow, and weight.

Also known as toughened or safety glass, tempered glass is highly suitable for external walls, facades, and roofs.

Because of a quick-cooling manufacturing process, the glass is highly durable and resilient to impact, making it less likely to shatter upon breakage. In an insulated glass unit, all layers of the glass are tempered.

Glass options

Glass panels are multilayer composites. There is a wide variety of combinations of glass panels with different characteristics, chemical coatings, lamination films, frames, and sealants is very wide.

Float glass has specific properties in terms of color, transparency, emissivity, strength, pressure resistance, heat resistance, chemical resistance, accoustic, fireproof class.

On custom request, special glass product configurations are available: electrically heated, Smart for privacy, fireproof, anti-vandal, bulletproof, non-slip (suitable for walking).

Electrically heated glass

The most frequently used layers of heated glass are in  IGU and TGU products.

Heated glass can be automatically controlled with temperature sensors or adjusted manually.

Heated paths on the glass surface are formed with the help of a laser and are so thin that they are not visible.

The exterior heating layer is designed to melt snow and ice. Primarily used in countries where there is snowfall.

The interior heating layer removes condensation when used in SPA areas, swimming pools, and botanical gardens.

It’s also used to create a comfortable environment in high-end restaurants and hotels, where customers can be seated near a glass wall during winter and not feel the cold draft. If it’s + 20C indoors and -5C outdoors, the inner surface of the glass will be around + 12C to + 16C, depending on the thermal resistance of the glass product.

Internal heated glass does not replace a heating system but only complements it.

Curved and covered glass

We design and manufacture curved glass products for special projects. The glass can be bent in 1 or 2 directions. GU, IGU, TGU can be bent. Curved glass cannot be tempered, therefore it’s not as resistant to loads as flat tempered glass.

Glass products are connected in two ways – via structural siliconization or a cap clamp. Structural siliconization is most suitable for domes.
 
The glass units are mounted on an aluminium profile system, that collects condensate from the glass connective joints.

Operational windows

Triangular or other shaped operational windows for ventilation or smoke extraction. Windows can be with a slight slope of 8 degrees.

The window will protrude around 30 mm from the main facade. Openable windows are controlled automatically (power supply 24 / 230V). Lifting weight is up to 100 kg.
